Chris Steward and Nancy Emde-Steward,
owners of Trail Boss Tours, are partners in
business and in life.
When speaking with the TrailBoss duo, it’s apparent that both ventures are
affairs of the heart… filled with passion, drive,
determination, and plenty of experience to go the
distance. We’re glad they chose our WR450s and WR250s to go
along for the ride.
“It’s great exposure for the Yamaha brand to have us showcasing
their off-road motorcycles and it’s a selling feature for us,” said
Steward. “Our clients get to test them in real-life situations. They’re
out punishing the motorcycle in the most brutal conditions—Baja
California. The Yamahas shine.

TRAIL BOSS ROCKS!
Here is a photo of my dear friend Nancy "Nan means FAST!", EmdeI just spent 2 weeks in Baja with them and she handed it to the boys!
We did back to back rides and Trail Boss Rocks!
I just read a recent article about her and it made me understand how Bad Ass She is!
Nan is married to Chris Steward, one of my best friends, We've known each other for 42 years and still going strong!
Here is a bit of the article about her from The San Diego Tribune, good reading!
Patriarch Joe Emde was racing on dirt and board tracks around Southern California before World War I prior to becoming one of Coronado's first motorcycle patrolmen in the late 1920s.
His son, Floyd, won the Daytona 200 on the famed Beach Road Course in 1949 and was later enshrined in the Motorcycle Hall of Fame.
And as Floyd was building an empire of five motorcycle shops in the area, his three sons also raced. Don Emde won the Daytona 200 in 1972 (the Emdes remain the only father-son Daytona 200 winners), David Emde was a national champion Road Racer later that decade and Bob Emde raced in the 1960s.
Recently, the Emde name appeared again in victory lane of a major motorsports event.
Nancy Emde rode the final leg into La Paz on the six-rider team that won the small-motorcycle division of the 39th SCORE Baja 1000 off-road race.
“It was the thrill of a lifetime,” said the 50-year-old Emde, who is believed to be the first woman to be part of a winning motorcycle team in the history of the Baja 1000.
The race was the second Baja 1000 for Emde, who had previously won women's division championships in TT and steeplechase series at the defunct South Bay Park Speedway in the 1970s.
The winning team was put together by Point Loman Charles Schnell and included Colorado's Mike Hefner, New Zealanders Tony Rutter and Mike Welsby, and Emde and her husband, Chris Steward.
While not veteran racers, Emde and Steward, who reside in Encinitas, own Trail Boss Tours, which annually hosts 250 riders for Baja California motorcycle adventures along the historic Baja 500 and Baja 1000 trails.
“It's a show-up-and-ride program,” said Emde of the Trail Boss Tours trips through the northern Baja outback. “We provide everything, including the motorcycles and lodging.”
Up until recently, Emde's involvement with the Baja 1000 had been as a supporter.
“I'd always worked around the race or helped people prepare for it,” said Emde, who is the only female motorcycle tour guide working Baja California.
She and Steward were also part of a motorcycle team that finished fifth in its class in the 2005 Baja 1000.
“One of our customers wanted to race, so we signed on,” said Emde. “That led us to doing my looking at this year. I always wanted to cross the finish line on a race into La Paz.”
Schnell, the driver of record and owner of the winning team's four-year-old Honda XR250, started the race in Ensenada before handing the bike over to the New Zealanders. Steward rode the treacherous mid-section at night before the Kiwis got back on for their second stints.
Emde rode the final 70 miles to the finish and finished 18 minutes in front of the second-place motorcycle in the class."
“It was a long 90 minutes,” said Emde. “You know what you have to do. But there are so many things going on.”
If you want to go on an Off-Road Trip of a lifetime
Baja Ride With Trail Boss Tours

I Just got back from Northern Baja with an incredible group of riders! We started East of Ensenada and rode Southeast to the famous Mikes Sky Ranch, one of the check points of the Baja 1000. Had a great dinner and drinks and off the next day to the West Coast of Baja. Once again a day of incredible scenery and great riding up the coast to San Quintin. It was another night of great accommodations, food and drink! The group of people on ride were great and will be friends for life! For an Off-Road Adventure of a lifetime I would highly recommend
